Five Tips For Boosting Your Mood {FTT12}

We all have those days when we just feel less than our best mentally. It passes with time, but what if you want to do something about it ASAP? Here’s 5 tips!

1️⃣ Do something for others. The quickest way to experience joy is to do something that brings joy to another person. Do a random act of kindness, write a thank you note, surprise someone with a favorite coffee or tea, etc.

2️⃣ Do something for yourself. It could be that your emotional battery is tapped dry. Do something to take care of yourself and charge back up!

3️⃣ Fake it. I’m usually not an advocate of the concept of ‘fake it till you make it,’ but in this case the scientific research supports that this is possible. You can actually put yourself in a better mood just by smiling even if you’re not happy, or laughing even when something isn’t funny. Your body will release chemicals in response to your physical actions. Those chemicals then alter your mood.

4️⃣ Get moving! Physical movement helps release endorphins which boost your mood. We all know this, but many of us don’t practice it. Just five or 10 minutes of brisk walking may be enough to elevate you out of ‘the blahs.’ Bonus points if you get outdoors, as this has also been shown to improve mental well-being.

5️⃣ Practice gratitude. Think of all the things which you have to be grateful for. Start listing them one by one and thanking the Lord for His blessings and provision. It sounds silly, but once you get started you probably will be able to keep going for quite a while! It’s also not possible to be grateful and angry at the same time.
