#75Hard Day 33: The Power of Now
▶️ When we decide we are going to implement a change, we often start by gathering information and developing a plan.
▶️ While it can be beneficial to have a good plan, it often results in delaying to a start date that is “a better time.”
▶️ We also imagine that our future self will somehow be more motivated or able to make better choices than our present self.
▶️ The truth is that the only way you’re going to grow into the person who makes better or more disciplined decisions in the future is by making better choices now.
▶️ Think about it… How many times have you heard someone say (or have you even said yourself) “I’ll start tomorrow.” Or “I’ll start on Monday.” Why is it that we think an arbitrary start date makes a difference?
▶️ We think that it will somehow be easier to begin on that future day. In reality, the longer you wait in between making a decision to implement a change for the better, the harder it will be because you will build it up in your mind as something more difficult than it likely is.
▶️ Whenever it is possible, make the decision to start immediately. It is the only way to grow into a more disciplined person who makes better choices in the future.
▶️ The power of now I’d also helpful when you are overwhelmed and stressed. Don’t worry about all the things at once. Just focus on the next decision. Make the best one you can given all options in given the circumstances and what is available in the present moment.
▶️ The decision you made last doesn’t matter. All the things coming up don’t matter. The only thing you can control is right now!
