If you don’t believe it, you will not achieve it. There’s so many of us out there trying to make progress towards goals without even realizing that we don’t actually believe in ourselves. This sounds like harsh truth, but there is good news! Your mind tells your body what to do, but your actions also tell your mind what to believe. So start taking action that aligns with the actions of the type of person who you want to become. Surround yourself with others who have made lasting change. Allow them to speak wisdom, encouragement, and truth into your life. You must believe it for yourself for it to sustain itself. Their encouragement will help you do that.
You need don’t just need to understand that you are capable of change—you need to believe that you are capable of change. You need to walk in faith until your outcome has been reached. If you still see yourself as the person you were (even the person that you might currently be) rather than the person that you can become, you will never become that person. If you believe that you can become that person, you will start making choices that act in alignment with who that person is. That is the only way to become that person.
If you truly believe that you will always be overweight, you will subconsciously sabotage your progress, even in the midst of efforts towards weight loss. If you don’t believe that you are capable of getting stronger, you won’t push yourself hard, even while showing up consistently at the gym. If you don’t believe you’ll ever be debt-free, you won’t put the disciplines into place to pay bills on time and dial back your spending habits even if you have taken time to map out a budget.
Again, the good news is that you can decide by faith that you can change. Simply take action that aligns with the person you want to be, and you will reverse engineer yourself a process for growth that will mold you into that person.
A lot of these things which are required for lasting change are things which I call #SuccessStrategies. They can be boiled down to habits, mindset shifts, and psychological strategies—in addition to involving the Lord in the process of course!
