Habit Hack: “White Boarding” Your Ideas
I do keep a journal with me at all times to record ideas as I have / come across them, but that’s only the starting point. One of the best things you can do when planning and attacking ideas is to ‘flesh out’ your thoughts in a way that helps you to visualize them. Using more than one part of your brain helps you see things from a different perspective. I know it sounds crazy, but it works!
I love using a whiteboard to do this because I can constantly cycle back around to things and add to ideas. It also gives me a recordable way to look back and see what the Lord has helped me to accomplish.
I have several white boards around my master bedroom because it also serves as my gym. I tend to get the best ideas while working out—this is proven by the way; physical motion activates the brain in different ways then sitting still does! I stare at the board while I’m lifting and listening to podcasts on business, spiritual, mental, emotional growth, etc. I find that the combination of physical movement and mental stimulation makes things ‘click’ in random “ah-ha!” moments.
Jasmine Star showed a video once with a meeting room that was surrounded by white boards. I have seen people who have whole rooms with dedicated walls of nothing but white boards! That would be a room in my dream home!
Reader Questions:
1/ Do you use white boards?
2/ What other ways do you keep track of your good ideas?
