Any fried mushroom fans out there? I absolutely love fried mushrooms growing up, but they are definitely not macro friendly. That is, until now! After seeing someone post about using the air fryer to cook mushrooms, I tested out a healthy version in my air fryer, and I have been having them almost every night since!
I have a NuWave Brio that I got at Walmart, but you can find all sizes and prices on Amazon here. It pre-heats super fast (usually before I have the food ready to go in!) and cooks things really quickly too. Many people rave over how it cooks meat, but I am embarrassed to say that I have not ventured past veggies yet.😂
Air “Fried” Mushrooms:
To make them, toss mushrooms in a Ziploc bag and spray to coat with cooking spray, then toss in Flavor God Cheese Seasoning (shown below) and shake to coat. Use aluminum foil to make a nest for your air fryer and add mushrooms to it. Cook at 400, tossing every 5-10 minutes to cook evenly. Cook until crispy.
✅ I cooked mine for about 20 – 25 minutes, but this will depend on how many you cook at a time. So just check every five or so minutes as you toss.
✅ If you don’t have the Flavor God seasoning, you can use some almond meal and Parmesan along with seasonings to get the same crispy outcome. That is what is in their cheese seasoning that made it have the nice crispy outside. However, I highly recommend their seasonings especially for this recipe!
✅ I have tested using both 12 oz and 16 oz containers of pre-sliced mushrooms, and this recipe works better with 12 oz. With the 16 oz the mushrooms, the ones at the bottom did not crisp as much because of the liquid that cooking creates at the bottom, which I don’t mind, but when I only used 12 oz all the mushrooms ended up crispy.
✅ Do not use without making the tinfoil nest because of that liquid or you will have a mess at the bottom of your air fryer!
✅ I have not tried using whole mushrooms yet, but I feel like they would work as well. That is how the person who posted about air fried mushrooms said that she did hers. I just like smaller pieces and more bites!
